Coalition

Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Coalition is an international alliance that supports the player's operation to stabilize the region, primarily shown via military support.

Non-military aspects

The Coalition is responsible for the initial setup of the operation, which includes the budget, chosen governors and initiatives, and more. They are also responsible for providing the player the initiatives that are rolled out across the region.

The Coalition's stance about the operation (alongside the international community) is determined by its Reputation. If Reputation is low, the Coalition will have less confidence towards your operation and will give out less funds.

When the Coalition determines that there isn't a lot of progress happening towards stability, Lack of Stability will hit and slowly drain your reputation.

Military aspects

The Coalition is responsible for early game military support. In the mid-game, the Coalition also provides air support, which includes Surveillance Drones and Airstrikes, but it must be funded by the operation first.

Relevant gameplay aspects

Coalition units

Coalition units are represented in-game by blue star icons.

Being an international alliance, the Coalition has more effective units with the downside of being unpopular to locals.

When deployed, Coalition units have two tour of duty (105 turns each) to defend the region from Insurgents. This can be extended at a cost of several reputation points.

Their deploy time counts down as long as they are in the field, but not when moving. This can be extended by either one or two tours by sacrificing your reputation.

When a Coalition unit is fighting, their deployment time drops 1.5 per turn on average. If a Coalition unit is losing while fighting Insurgents (the battle bar is <30%), their deployment time drops 2.25 per turn instead. Coalition deployment time drop more if player play governor Warlord.

If Oil Lobbyist initiative (Golden Sands only) is purchased, Coalition Soldiers deployment time drains 40% slower (x0.6) when in the zone has oil derrick.

When a Coalition Soldier is deployed for the first time, their deployment time is increased by 11-42 (17-67 if you have the Extended Deployment perk) turns. This means that the first tour of duty of a Coalition Soldier is slightly longer than repeated tours.

Decisions

Coalition distracted by another war, requesting temporary withdrawal

  • Refuse the Coalition's request at the cost of international anger and reputation loss.
  • Accept the request. The Coalition will temporarily remove one of their units present in your region and in turn offer you a replacement several months later, but has no other consequences.
  • Negotiate with Coalition forces, which may invoke international anger, reputation loss or convince the Coalition that their withdrawal will cause extremely adverse effects to your efforts. They may give you some funds as compensation and/or offer rapid replacement.

Surge Support

  • Accept a military surge from the Coalition with 2 additional units. All Coalition forces will be forcibly withdrawn after 2 years and no new Coalition soldiers may be requested afterwards.
  • Train two additional National Units for free at the cost of corruption.
  • Accept a civilian surge, boosting support level at the cost of corruption and inflation.

General information

The coalition is also responsible for several player tactics and advisors, and can be affected by map features and insurgent tactics.

Trivia

  • As the game is based off Middle Eastern conflicts such as wars in Afghanistan, the Coalition echoes the real-life U.S. Military and their alliances such as NATO, seeing that America was known for its frequent involvement in foreign affairs and warfare against "Insurgents", namely local militia organizations that oppose them.
