The Economist is the second governor in Rebel Inc.

Specialty

The Economist is trusted to receive the year's budget in advance rather than monthly. This gives freedom to respond to events but also increases corruption.

At the start of the game, the Economist receives twice the normal starting budget.

The Economist also receives funds on an annual basis and corruption escalates faster than normal. When she gains money per year, corruption increases by 3%.

Bank Reserve Increase/Non-essential Spending Freeze (Government) - Drastically decreases inflation but not its increment rate. Cost is not subject to inflation.

Strategies

Advantages

The Economist allows the player to retain overall freedom for their general plan since they can make much larger investments. They can also skip the usual wait period for inflation twice. The Economist also has a larger starting budget in which allows the player to fund more initiatives at the start of the game, having improved preparation for the rest of the game.

Weaknesses

Along with the corruption bonus, the player must regulate their funds carefully and ensure low inflation when they've used all of the Economist's special initiatives so they could formulate the most effective responses to events. You must also not spend all the money too quickly or if you do, you have to make sure they matter the most, otherwise you will find yourself struggling with no money to solve any problems requiring them.

Trivia

• The Economist is the only governor who has the ability to decrease inflation and doesn't receives funds at a monthly rate.
• The Economist reappears as a leader in After Inc.
• Due to how the Economist's corruption bonus from annual budget only increases the corruption itself and not the risk, the corruption bonus does not properly work on Mega Brutal difficulty, as corruption instantly matches with the risk in said difficulty, meaning that whenever you gain your annual budget, the corruption will briefly be increased and them immediately lowered back to match the risk.
