Caves, like Insurgent camps, are installations that aid the insurgent forces. Caves spawn randomly in every map within a campaign and allow insurgents to hide inside of them to escape soldiers.

Insurgents hiding in caves can be removed slowly by moving a unit onto the region with the cave, this process takes time and can be sped up by obtaining the "cave combat tactics" initiative from the military initiative section of the operations room.
